Income Tax Planning Advice

Whether you an individual, running your own business or retired, self assessment tax can often be confusing and worrying. At Burt Brill & Cardens we make sure we provide a straight-forward cost-effective service for the completion of personal income tax returns, including capital gains and foreign income.

We also specialise in dealing with tax returns for trusts and individuals with share portfolios.

Inheritance Tax Planning Advice

You may have to pay Inheritance Tax if you own a house, have life cover or have pension entitlements.

We can help you when it comes to inheritance tax planning – our solicitors have wide experience advising clients and understanding what will affect them and their family in the event of death.

We don’t want you to have to pay inheritance tax on your estate unnecessarily. We have years of experience helping a wide range of clients – advising on how gifts are made and how undue tax may be avoided later in life.

Trusts are a great way of preserving assets for future generations. Many people aren’t aware of the role they can play – we can explain why trusts might be a good avenue for you to pursue, and help you get one off the ground if required.

Visit our dedicated page on Trusts if this is of interest or read more about inheritance tax solutions.

Tax bills can be paid by insurance cover. Full investment and insurance advice can be provided by DKM Wealth Limited.

Administration of Estates

Under present tax law it is sometimes possible to vary the provisions of a Will so that less inheritance tax is paid.

We are able to offer comprehensive advice on “post-death” tax planning, and tell you the effect of inheritance tax, capital gains tax and income tax on the estate. This can be a confusing and complex area of law – with years of experience our knowledge can guide you through the process – our aim is to offer effective and easily understood advice in a professional and friendly manner.

Trusts and Personal Portfolios

As well as providing an income tax return service we can advise on the income tax and capital gains tax implications of trusts and personal portfolios. This advice can include tax planning, particularly for capital gains tax, and inheritance tax so that unnecessary tax is not paid.

We can work with DKM Wealth Limited, our associated Financial Planning company regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, to make sure you receive complete legal and financial advice when it comes to your trust or personal financial portfolio.

If you are involved with a trust where income is being retained until a beneficiary reaches a certain age (as it is often the case with trusts for grandchildren) we can give you advice and prepare the necessary tax returns.

The tax treatment of cash-enhanced scrip dividends can be complicated. We will be pleased to advise you, and prepare the necessary returns for the Inland Revenue.

Emigration

Few clients would wish to emigrate just to save tax. But for some it can produce very large tax savings.

If you would like further advice on becoming non-resident for tax purposes then please ask us.
